A classroom writing bulletin board

Set Up a Writing Bulletin Board in a Flash

Teachers this year and every year are working hard. The last thing we need is to spend hours preparing the perfect bulletin board. So let me save you time and energy with my 10-minute or less bulletin board display student writing.

Ten minutes? Really?

Yes, really.

The 10-Minute Writing Bulletin Board Background

I love having a beautiful classroom. I’m what you may call a fanatic about my neat teaching space. I also enjoy having a color pallet that will brighten my day. So creating eye-catching and beautiful bulletin boards is very important to me.

But, after teaching all day, writing lesson plans, attending afterschool meetings, and prepping for upcoming lessons, I don’t have the energy to create the “perfect” bulletin board whenever I have a new project.

So I created my 10-minute or less writing bulletin board. Let me tell you about it.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • ribbon (size will be determined by the length and height of your board)
  • bulletin board trim
  • Monthly NO PREP Writing Prompts, or you can create your own prompt.

STEPS:

  1. cut 3-4 pieces of ribbon to the length of your writing bulletin board
  2. staple the ribbon horizontally across the board (Only staple at the ends while keeping the ribbon taught)
  3. trim the board with the desired decor
  4. fold and hang the student completed writing on the ribbon

You now have a Fold & Hang bulletin board!

The Writing Bulletin Board Benefits

I love the Fold & Hang style of the bulletin board for two reasons.

  1. Less Time-it takes even less time to change out the old writing papers with new fold and hang writing prompt papers each month.
  2. Sharing- I usually allow 15 minutes for sharing student writing each day. This bulletin board makes it so simple to grab a completed student’s writing, allow for a sharing out of the writing, and slide it back onto the ribbon. This action is then repeated the next day. (So simple!)

Tips:

  • Use a neutral bulletin board trim so that the student writing illustrations and the trim will coordinate.
  • I prefer to use a 1-inch neutral ribbon simply because it looks cute.
  • I do not include a bulletin board title, but that can be added easily.
  • The Monthly NO PREP Writing Prompts are available to purchase in a single month, but I recommend the BUNDLE to save money.
  • If you need to work a little more on paragraph writing, I have this blog post you may be interested in reading, try out one FREE week of Guided Paragraph Writing here.

The last point I’d like to make is that there’s no going back once you use the writing board. You will love the form and function of the board so much that you’ll need to share this blog post with all your friends right away.

Once you have your bulletin board set, tag me on Instagram @theteachingq and tell me if you beat the allotted setup time of 10-minutes. I’d love to see it in your classroom.
