My Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book entitled “All You Need Is Love” because that is exactly what students will write about in the writing activity, LOVE!

I LOVE Valentine’s Day! Not only did I love it as a young girl, but I like it as a teacher as well. Don’t get me wrong, Christmas, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, they’re all great, but Valentine’s Day takes the cake! That’s why I have created a week-long Valentine’s Day Writing Activity to share with you! The writing project is unique in that it focuses on the elements of LOVE. Students will study what love actually means and relate the terms to their own life experiences in writing.

During February, my classroom is full of hearts, friendship letters, adorable crafts, and gifts for family and loved ones. On or near to the fourteenth of February, we have the traditional Valentine exchange. Get your FREE Editable Valentine Class List HERE! Since I love the day so much, my students do as well. Although the activities are fun and engaging, the writing we do the week prior is so dear to my heart.

Why I Created the Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book

Last year, I overheard two students talking about love. So, like many teachers, I quickly included the entire class so to capitalize on the conversation. (We have a knack for that, don’t we?!) Before long, we had a class brainstorming chart of “What is Love”? The students came up with terms that related to the following headings: compassion, friendship, loyalty, generosity, and forgiveness. As we looked at our chart, each student was so eager to share or write their personal experiences relating to the terms. The Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book was then created to give students the opportunity to share their experiences in the form of writing.

All You Need Is Love!- A Valentine Writing Activity

In reviewing our class chart, each student was so eager to share their personal experiences relating to the terms. The Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book was then created to give students the opportunity to share their experiences. (Win-Win) I was still hitting those ever-so-need writing standards.

Vocabulary for Love- Valentine Writing Activity

Each day of the Valentine Writing Activity is a new opportunity to discuss a vocabulary term as a class. Terms are defined and related to actual life experiences. Students are completely engaged when given a chance to share and write their own experiences. This activity includes opportunities to discuss the following terms related to love: forgiveness, compassion, generosity, friendship, and loyalty. Imagine the power of Valentine’s writing activity! Students relate and learn about one another through the writings. If your students are anything like mine, they never run out of relatable content.

The Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book provides plenty of writing space for students to express their feelings and experiences related to the vocabulary term. Once students write, they share their Valentine writing with a partner to revise and edit.

The knowledge of LOVE is a gift that everyone will appreciate! Are you interested in sharing this experience with your students? If so, my Valentine Writing Activity Flip Book is for you, so jump over to my store at The Teaching Q.

Conversation Hearts- A Valentine’s Writing Activity

If you are anything like me, you may still want to fit in some creative ways to engage students with more writing activities. Well, I couldn’t pass on an idea by The Owl Teacher, The Horror of Conversation Hearts. The activity is so simple that everyone is sure to enjoy the fun. First, the teacher provides each student with a box of conversation hearts. The goal is for students to write in any form: an article, journal entry, or maybe a poem. The challenge is for students to use ALL the conversation messages, while still applying accurate and complete conventions. Once the teacher has approved, students the writing, students glue the hearts to the writing draft. I love how creative Tammy is!
